Electric Single Beam Crane Maintenance: Effective Methods and Practices

Crane equipment is a remarkable creation of modern society, providing effective lifting assistance for heavy loads, significantly enhancing production efficiency and reducing manpower in enterprises. Electric single beam cranes, as a common type of crane equipment, often feature an I-beam or a combination of steel shapes and plates for their main beam, and are widely used in various fields. So, how should electric single beam cranes be maintained?

As frequently used mechanical equipment, wear and tear affect the lifespan of electric single beam cranes. The best way to extend their lifespan is through regular maintenance. The specific maintenance content and requirements include:

  1. Weekly Check of Limiters:

    • Inspect the limiter for flexible and reliable operation.
    • Check and adjust: When the hook ascends to its upper limit, the distance between the hook’s casing and the drum’s casing should be more than 50m.
    • Ensure that when the hook descends to its lower limit, there are at least 3 safe coils of steel wire rope on the drum.
    • Verify the reliability and firmness of buffers or stoppers at both ends of the I-beam.
    • Ensure the reliability and effectiveness of the running mechanism’s travel limiter.
  2. Weekly Motor and Brake Check:

    • Ensure no abnormal noise when the main lifting motor is lifting weights.
    • Check axial movement of the fan brake wheel: Normal movement should be around 2mm.
    • Test and adjust for a rated load, ensuring that the load descent distance after braking is ≥80.
    • Monitor for any abnormal sounds or smells during the operation of the crane motor.
    • Check for any looseness in the motor mounting bolts.
  3. Weekly Steel Wire Rope Inspection:

    • Ensure correct winding of the steel wire rope on the drum without any loosening or entanglement.
    • Check for broken wires (record the number of broken wires if any). Note: Replace the wire rope if the number of broken wires in a single strand exceeds 11.
    • Inspect the surface wear and corrosion of the steel wire rope; replace if the wear or corrosion exceeds 30%.
    • Replace the wire rope if it shows bending or deformation.
    • Ensure the firm installation of wedge blocks.
  4. Weekly Hook Inspection:

    • Check for cracks.
    • Measure the wear on the dangerous section (replace if wear ≥ 10% of the original size).
    • Inspect the opening degree (replace if the increase in size ≥ 15% of the original size).
    • Check for torsional deformation ≥ 10.
    • The dangerous section or neck of the hook should not show any plastic deformation. Replace the hook if any of the above conditions are met.
  5. Weekly Electrical Checks:

    • Inspect the power lines and control cables for wear.
    • Ensure good grounding.
    • Check for loose or fallen electrical contact points.
    • Verify the normal functioning of operational buttons and other control buttons.
  6. Monthly Miscellaneous Checks:

    • Inspect the exterior for any missing shells, covers, or other parts.
    • Listen for abnormal sounds or smells during operation.
    • Perform cleaning, inspection, and tightening of screws and nuts at all connection points.
